My Super Psalm

Linda Gage found great comfort in the Psalms, especially in her last illness. She compiled a notebook of favorite verses from all 150 Psalms and called it:

MY SUPER PSALM

“Happy are those whose. . . delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law they meditate day and night.” 1:2

“The Lord said to me, ‘You are my beloved son (daughter); today I have begotten you. Ask of me. . .’” 2:7

“You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head.” 3:3 (Glory: adoring praise, resplendent beauty, great
splendor, absolute happiness, bliss of heaven.)

“I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.” 4:8

“O Lord, in the morning You hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to You and wait expectantly.” 5:3

“The Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication. The Lord accepts my prayer.” 6:9

“The wicked. . . bring forth lies. They make a pit, digging it out, and fall into the hole that they have made.” 7:8,9

“O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is Your Name in all the earth. When I look at Your heavens, the moon and stars that You have made; what are human beings that You are mindful of them, mortals that You care for them?” 8:1-4

“You are the One who lifts me up from the gates of death, so that I may recount all Your praises and. . . rejoice in your deliverance.” 9:13,14

“You do see! Indeed You note trouble and grief, that you may take it into Your hands; the helpless commit themselves to You; You are the helper of the orphans.” 10:14

“O Lord, who may abide in Your sanctuary? Who may dwell in Your Holy Hill? Those who walk blamelessly and . . . speak the truth from their heart.” 15:1,2

“May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble. May He send you help from the sanctuary. May He grant you your heart’s desire. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions. . . with mighty victories in His right hand.” 20:1,2,6

“You have given me my heart’s desire. . . you meet me with rich blessings. . . . . I asked you for life and you gave it to me. . . You make me glad with the joy of Your presence.” 21:2-4,6

“It was You who took me from my mother’s womb; You kept me safe on my mother’s breast. On You I was cast from my birth and since my mother bore me, You have been my God.” 22:9,10

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for You are with me. . . You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.” 23:4,5

“One thing I asked the Lord, that will I seek after to live in the House of the Lord all the days of my life and to inquire in His temple. My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with Me’, and my heart responds, ‘Lord, I’m coming.’” 27:4,8

“Blessed be the Lord, for He has heard the sound of my pleadings. . . in Him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exalts, and with my song I give thanks to Him. O save Your people and bless Your heritage; be our Shepherd and carry us forever.” 28:6,7

“The Lord sits enthroned as King forever. May the Lord give strength to His people! May the Lord bless His people with peace.” 29:10,11

“You have turned my mourning into dancing. You have taken off my sackcloth, and clothed me with joy, so that my soul may praise You and not be silent. O my God, I will give thanks to You forever.” 30:11,12

“The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations. . . Let Your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us even as we hope in you.” 33:11,22

“I sought the Lord and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Look to Him and be radiant. . . The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The Lord redeems the soul of His servants. None of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.” 34:4,18,22

“All my bones shall say, “O Lord, who is like You? You deliver the weak from those too strong for them, the weak and needy from those who despise them.” 35:10

They feast in the abundance of your house. You give me to drink from the river of your delights. For with You is the fountain of life. In Your light, we see light. (“In your smile we have the light of life.” Moffet.) O continue Your steadfast love to those who know you.” 36:8,9

“Trust in the Lord and do good. . . Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. . . Those who wait for the Lord will inherit the land. . . Our steps are made firm by the Lord when He delights in our way. Though we stumble we shall not fall headlong for the Lord holds us by the hand.” 37:3,4,23

“I have been young and now am old but I have not see the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are ever giving liberally and lending and their children become a blessing.” 37:25

“It is for You, O Lord, that I wait, it is You, O Lord my God who will answer. For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me. I confess my iniquity. I am sorry for my sin. O my God, do not be far from me: make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation.” 38:15,21

“Lord, let me know how fleeting my life is. Surely everyone stands as a mere breath. Surely everyone goes about like a shadow. Surely for nothing they are in turmoil. Here my prayer, O Lord,. Do not hold your peace at my tears for I am your passing guest, an alien, like all my forebears.” 39:4,5,12
